Growing up I was always told that it takes a village to raise children, so it is wonderful when local businesses show how much they care. These days community is the village. Supporting our community primarily providing women and young women with professional attire, graduation dresses, and shoes is only a little step to helping give back.
Lillian Paul owner of Deja New consignment shows how big her heart is when she received a phone call asking her to donate gently used graduation dress, shoes and purses to the graduating class of Rideau High School. These young women had worked hard over the years, and their graduation, their "Save The Last Dance" before heading out into the big women world might not happen.
For over 60 years Rideau High School has had a diverse group of students, many children are immigrants, refugees, and low-income families, so when Lillian was asked for donations, she responded with a firm "Yes." She immediately started picking out graduation dress that she knew these young women would love along with shoes, and party purses. Lillian Paul wanted to empower the graduating women of Rideau High School with prom dresses and shoes that will make their heart sing with pride and self-confidence as they receive their grade 12 certification.
The school set up a room where the young women went in to do some shopping. They were all so excited and couldn't believe the support from the community that provided everything from dresses to bank and dinner.
Deja New continues to donate dresses, tops, pants, shoes, and purses to a variety of women's charity.
